How trusting your inner knowing opens the door to joy
I remember that day like it was 2 weeks ago.
I was 10 years old at camp for the second time and in my first Magic class.
I was so excited to be there!
Here was a class devoted to what I KNEW was true: the kind of magic that makes you gasp: feeling wonder and wonderful at the same time.
As I sat there, wiggling in the wooden seat, the teacher arrived.
He looked harried -- truly! – his stringy hair was a mess – and he arrived puffing as though he’d just walked up a big hill even though the area around our building was flat.
“As you all know,” he began, “There is no such thing as real magic.”
WHAT?!
My body froze.
He continued: “But we will be learning tricks you can do with your friends and family.”
My heart was beating rapidly and I could barely catch my breath:
I knew, KNEW there was such a thing as true magic.
I’d experienced it.
I raised and waved my sweaty hand: and then I blurted out, “Yes, there is! There is real magic!”
The teacher stared at me with a look of irritation. “No. There’s not,” he answered firmly.
“When you know this, you won’t be disappointed by what we’re about to do here.”
I couldn't believe he was denying my truth!
I knew, KNEW there was real magic: e.g. the way I’d felt when I slept outside my kindergarten in sleeping bags with my dad and saw the expanse of stars in a midnight blue sky.
I felt linked with my soul.
This is the kind of magic that makes you teary, knowing that we are all part of something beautiful that is also much larger than we can comprehend.
Or, the first time I manifested the perfect grad school after creating a list of 5 must haves (including moving out of state) and serendipitously finding out about this school (before the internet was active) – from someone I hadn’t seen for 3 years whom I saw on the street and who knew a friend of a friend of a friend who was going to this amazing grad school focused on mindfulness and somatic healing, and was in the Bay Area where I wanted to move to from Pennsylvania. Back in the late 90's, mindfulness was not a common area of study.
I got the shivers.
Here was magic. Real magic. 🎇
Or the time, I manifested the book, Ask and it is Given after requesting it from the Universe – which I found playing in a friend’s car's cd player!
That same day, I decided I wanted a delicious vegetarian sandwich on homemade bread with a homemade chocolate chip cookie and that I was looking for lunch & a bakery in a town I’d never been in – and, if you guessed I found it, you’d be right!
And, guess what the café was called? “Lunch & a Bakery!”
I was guided to which street by my intuition.
Pure magic. True magic.
True magic also exists in those moments when you're not asking for anything in particular but you're present and experiencing the depth of the moment -- the times when you're looking at the face of your beloved and feeling such love, devotion, and joy!
Or, when you know KNOW that you are the right family to adopt a wonderful new companion animal.
Such as when my intuition suggested I look on PetFinder for a poodle named Murphy and there he was!
He had just arrived on the site we’d been checking daily for a new dog, and he is the perfect lovable snuggle buddy we were wanting!
And, it’s not just the results that feel magical, but the feeling of collaborating with a conscious universe that creates the magical spark.
We are all living in the field of magic and it’s palpable when we say, YES to the sacred.
What magic do you experience each day?
What helps you say, YES to your life of aliveness and joy?
The field of real magic is waiting for you to say, YES.
